Nothing Gold Can Stay
It is a dark October dawn. A chilly wetsuit awaits, as do the waves, while I grab my camera bag and venture out under the last few stars in the sky. It’s that time of year again in Santa Barbara where maybe, just maybe, the swells are back in town. The glass, the colors, the calm. The pulse of the planet splashing the shorebreak. The change I love to capture in the place I love to chase. And this morning, it’s alive. Soft sand on the beach with clean sets, a clear horizon, and a couple clouds. Hello ocean. A rush of water washes over me as the day gets warmed up. Wet hair, camera in hand, with ominous light illuminating everything in sight. Sometimes I wish it would last forever but then I smile because I know better. So dawn goes down to day, this wave comes to play.
